* China Now Main Driving Force Of World Growth
According to a recent report by the China National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) China now leads the world in terms of contribution to global economic growth. The country contributed 19.2% to world economic growth last year, up from 2.3% in 1978 the report said. China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was US$30 billion in 1952, more than doubling by 1960, and reached a massive US$3.86 trillion in 2008. China had also become the world's third largest economy in 2008 by accounting for 6.4% of global GDP. However, while Gross National Income Per Capita has been catching up with the rest of the world China is still well behind most of the countries of the world. In 2008 Gross National Income Per Capita was US$2,700, placing China 130th out of 206 countries.
* ASEAN - South America Trade Has Potential For GrowthAs trade between Asia, the USA and EU continues to stagnate due to the world recession ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries are now increasingly looking at Latin America to sell their products - a senior official at the ASEAN Secretariat Office (
http://www.aseansec.org) said recently. Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN Sundram Puspanathan said recently: "Latin America is a promising new emerging economy region that promises lucrative markets for ASEAN products. Trade between ASEAN and Latin American countries has been demonstrating significant growth. Trade value between the two economies showed tremendous growth, reached US$24 billion from 2006-2007 with a growth of 200% in that period, with surplus going to ASEAN countries." According to the ASEAN Deputy Secretary General, Brazil and Mexico have been the main countries involved in increasing trade with ASEAN countries.
According to ASEAN a number of countries in these two regions are discussing bilateral trade relationships, with Chile and Singapore having already set one up. Currently the main exports from ASEAN to Latin America are agriculture, footwear and sugar products. Significant imports include alcohol and fertiliser, according to Sundram.

* Caucasus And Central Asia To Lead Global RecoveryAccording to the IMF (
http://www.imf.org) the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia (also known as CCA) are to be amongst the first to see recovery in their economies in 2010. "The region as a whole should see a modest recovery in 2010, although the degree of the upturn will vary amongst countries," Masood Ahmed told an economic forecast briefing recently. The region has been severely affected by the global economic downturn, with growth projected to drop from 6.6% in 2008 to 1.5% in 2009.
The IMF expects that the energy exporters of the region such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will record solid growth in 2009, owing to long term energy export contracts, supportive policies and limited linkages to international markets. "With increasing global energy demand, most energy exporters are expected to grow strongly in 2010," the IMF said. However, the IMF pointed out that the region's energy importers namely Armenia, Georgia and Tajikistan are facing a severe slowdown in growth and deteriorating living standards as a result of the reduction in remittances, especially from Russia.
