Iran Developing Appliance Export Trade
***********************************

Despite some tricky political problems, Iran is developing a healthy export business with a range of products - in particular home appliances. Billions of Rials have been invested in this sector in the past six years. In the last four months alone, according to the Iran Customs Administration, US$27 million worth of appliances were exported to Iraq, US$2.1 million to the United Arab Emirates, US$2 million to Afghanistan and US$1.7 million to Azerbaijan. Iran also exports around US$50 million of home appliances to European countries including Germany, France and the UK, Central Asia and some African countries, annually. Other significant exports were chinaware, copper and aluminium kitchenware, heating products and electric lighting, which showed a 12% rise in exports over the last four months.

Bangladesh Seafood Export Plans
*****************************

The Government of Bangladesh is planning to develop a significant seafood export industry and increase earnings from shrimp and fish export to about Tk 10,000 crore by 2010. An announcement was made by Fish and Livestock Minister Abdullah Al Noman recently at a seminar organised by the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA). This will be partly achieved by adopting a recognised system of food safety and quality. Noman said that 'It is possible to increase the fish output of the country if Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HCCP) is implemented.'.

Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury urged fish exporters and hatchery owners to cultivate the fish according to European Union standards. An EU delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh in November to verify the fish industry, while a US delegation will visit in early 2006.

Vietnam Shoe Export Revenue Up 20%
*********************************

Vietnam saw a 20% year-on-year rise in footwear export revenue last month, according to figures released by the Vietnam Ministry of Trade. Exports totalled US$300 million in revenue, bringing export turnover for the first seven months of the year to over US$1.7 billion. The Ministry reported that the good performance was due to strong increases in markets such as the Netherlands, Taiwan, Japan and South Africa, as well as continued price increases.

The Vietnam Economy website at www.vneconomy.com.vn/eng, run by the Vietnam Economic Times, is the best source of trade news and leads we've found.

Peru 'One Of The Fastest Growing Nations'
*************************************
Peru saw its exports and imports rise by 38% and 25% respectively in the first half of this year compared to last, according to the Peru Central Bank. The country's exports and imports increased to US$7.75 billion and US$5.67 billion respectively in the first six months of 2005. As a result, the country enjoyed a trade surplus of US$2.08 billion, much higher than the US$1.07 billion in the same period last year. The target value of exports this year is US$14.38 billion, compared with last year's US$12.55 billion. Although the country aims for 4.8% economic growth this year, similar to last year's target, the Government predicts a growth of 6% - ranking the nation as one of the fastest growing countries in South America!

As ever, good English language websites covering trade with South America are hard to come by. The US Commercial Service has a good Peru Country Commercial Guide available online at www.buyusainfo.net/info.cfm?id=121160.

Afghan Fruit Export Industry Takes Off
***********************************
Afghanistan has begun exporting fresh fruit by air for the very first time, following the departure of 12,000 tons of produce from the southern Kandahar province direct to India and the United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan's fresh fruit is in great demand in India, Pakistan, the UAE and Gulf states, but decades of conflict meant that efficient storage and airfreight handling facilities weren't available until recently. Abdur Raziq Rafiqi, Chairman of the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce, announced that fruit was being airlifted abroad for the first time in the history of the province, also utilising storage facilities built with the help of the USA and India. Afghanistan fruit has also recently been exported to the UK.

Incoterms …. Trade Made Simpler
******************************

Incoterms are standard trade definitions widely used in international sales contracts. Administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) they are central to vast volumes of world trade. Among the best known Incoterms are EXW (Ex Works), FOB (Free on Board), CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight), DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid), and CPT (Carriage Paid To). An understanding of Incoterms, especially when dealing with contracts in other languages, is the key to making trade simpler for all. To help with this, the official ICC website has 'Preambles' - a useful summary of each term together with basic information and background. The site also has details of how to order the full Incoterms, in your choice of 31 languages.

Celebrate Your Bigger Profits - Trade Fireworks !
*******************************************
Fireworks are believed to have originated in China some 2,000 years ago. Since then, they've become a product that is enjoyed in celebrations around the world. New Year in China, July 4 in the USA, November 5 in the UK - and just about every Fiesta in Spain - sees millions of dollars of fireworks go up in smoke. Someone has to supply them, so it can be a lucrative import-export opportunity. Fireworks are bought and produced worldwide, though the majority are still made in China and often traded through brokers in Hong Kong. If you'd like to get involved in fireworks trading (remember that they're banned in some places, and strict safety regulations apply in most) here are a few useful contacts : National Fireworks Association (USA) : www.nationalfireworks.org. British Fireworks Association : www.b-f-a.org. Canadian Fireworks Association : www.canadianfireworks.org.
