The Indonesian finance ministry recently forecast the country's economy will grow around 6.2%-6.3% this year - according to Fiscal Policy Agency Chief Anggito Abimayu. He added that the biggest contributor towards the growth was household consumption, which could rise 5.1% alone this year. Over the last year exports have grown 7.6%, imports 8.5% and investment by 12%-15%.
The National Agency For Export Development (NAFED) has a handy site at

Canadian Consumers Keep Buying
******************************
Despite fears of a recession in its neighbour the USA the Canadian economy is performing well at the moment. The country's economy will grow by 2.2% this year, thanks to strong consumer demand, the Conference Board of Canada estimated recently. The Ottawa-based Conference Board believes that steady consumer confidence, easing interest rates and a stable housing market should help keep Canadians spending, boosting the economy. It said that spending by consumers grew by a year on year rate of 7.4% in the fourth quarter of last year. Canadians are expected to spend 'liberally' this year as well, according to the report. In 2007, Canada's economy grew by 2.7%.

A simple bunch of flowers or a pot plant might not seem like a big import-export opportunity. But flowers and plants are bought and sold on a global scale. The biggest growing nations are the Netherlands, Colombia, Kenya, Israel, India, South Africa, Ecuador and Malaysia. The biggest buying nations are the USA, UK and other EU countries. It can be a very lucrative market too: Figures show that the retail flower and plant industry in the UK alone is worth over £1.5 billion. In the EU, each and every person spends an average of €80-€140 on flowers and plants every year!
If you'd like to know more about the flowers and plants industry with useful facts and figures and market information - plus of course detailed information on plant and flower types - then take a look at the UK-based Flowers & Plants Association website at
